After our whirlwind tour through Southern California, we were totally ready for a week at the beach with Michael's family. A few years ago, we spent a week at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina with M's parents in a condo on the beach, and we have been dreaming of going back ever since. So when we were talking about spending a week with them during home leave this year, we suggested a repeat visit to Hilton Head. This time we were lucky to add Michael's brother, girlfriend and daughter to the mix. Some highlights from the week include: Spending time with fam Paddle Ball on the beach Mini golf Chilling at the condo Check out all of our photos here.

Following our lack of success lake fishing in California, we decided to take it to the next level by heading to the sea. The deep sea, to be exact.
My brother Aaron invited us to join him today for a half-day deep sea fishing adventure out of Newport Beach with the company Davey's Locker. I think the first time Aaron fished with Davey's Locker was when he was 12 or 13 years old, so he is basically an old pro at this point. We also convinced my Mom to join, which was both unexpected and awesome. Fishing is most definitely a sport for the early risers. After a 3:45am wake-up call, we made it to the harbor by 5:30am and were anchors away at 6am. My mom and I each hooked a fish that we were allowed to keep, and Michael and Aaron each hooked two that they had to throw back. All in all, it was a fantastic way to spend our last full day in California. I was really lucky in college to have fantastic roommates who quickly became my best girlfriends. We have stayed close throughout the years, even though none of us live in the same state. Which is why it is all the more special to have seen Jill and Corissa yesterday, along with their fab husbands and kiddos. We all met up at Lake Arrowhead, where Jill's mom has a lake house and boat. We spent the afternoon tooling around the lake, drinking wine or beer as tastes preferred, and catching up on life. I really miss living close to these ladies, and even if years separate the time we get to see one another, we always pick up right where we left off. It was a short but very sweet day. |
